Antique Italian Micro Mosaic Photograph Frame Daisy Miniature WWI Soldier Photo in Gift Presentation Box. Antique Italian Micro Mosaic Photograph Frame featuring Daisy Flowers on a pale blue ground on lacquered brass - inside the frame is a poignant faded photograph of a World War I Soldier in Uniform - this was clearly a very treasured photo kept in a special frame - probably dating to the early 20th century - the multi coloured micromosaic is cemented into place to create a delicate floral spray of daisies and other alpine spring flowers and leaves with a border design to the outside and inside and then an ornate lacquered brass edge around the outside and a rope twist design to the inside - a little dirty from storage over many years, there are a very few tiny missing pieces around the border mainly but hardly noticeable and the overall effect is just lovely with the scallop edge and arched top - on the back is the remains of the old metal loop which would have held a simple wire metal stand - another could be soldered in place or a simple card hinge could be stuck on in its place quite easily we think - the 3 metal hinges are in place holding the photograph in place - you might want to keep this WWI momento untouched or replace it with another precious photographic momento - either way this is just lovely - please check photographs which form part of the description and do help - beautiful example of Italian micro mosaic in gift presentation box - don't miss it!

Micromosaic momentos were often brought back from the Grand Tour of Europe - made in Italy it was a skill honed over the centuries and reached their pinnacle of popularity in the late 19th century - examples of this skilled craft became a very popular momento or souvenier for wealthy British on their tour of Europe. Made made Tesserae either tiny pieces of glass or enamel cemented in place to create beautiful patterns and designs, often used in delicate jewellery etc. This example may have been brought back before WWI or just afterwards and. 2.25" long (58mm) x 1 5/8th" wide (44mm) and approxmately 1/8th" (4mm) deep3 7/8" long, 2" wide, 3/4" deep when closed. Weight 28 grams before packing.
