Victorian era British Pattern 1821 heavy cavalry officer sword with its distintinctive "honeysuckle" pattern pierced hilt and Wilkinson type blade. A typical example with large steel bowl guard engraved with a honeysuckle ladder pattern. Fishskin and wire covering to the grip.
The 37 3/4 blade is stained and patinated. The right side of the blade has original brass PROVED control mark which shape is typical for cutler Robert Mole & Sons, Birmingham. Steel hilt is tarnished and pitted.
The blade is firm in the hilt and the fishskin grip plus wire bindings are all good and tight. Length of the blade with handle: 96 cm (37 3/4). Length of the blade without handle: 81.3 cm (32).
