Auc1: Australian WWI Pr: Brit War Medal & Allied Victory 38 Bn AIF w Photos etc. This pair of WWI medals are the British War Medal and the Allied Victory Medal. They are officially impressed to 2799 L/Cpl M Finlayson 38 Bn A. Along with the pair there is a ribbon bar; interestingly this has an early version of the Allied Victory Medal ribbon. Originally formed in 1916 for service overseas during World War I as part of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF), the battalion was recruited from the state of Victoria and formed part of the 10th Brigade, 3rd Division. It served throughout the war on the Western Front before being disbanded in 1919. The pair comes with a custom-made sterling silver dog tag bracelet inscribed to S. Presumably Pres is short for Presbyterian. This is most likely to have belonged to a brother.
This theory is partly validated by accompanying photo of two WWI soldiers. There is a separate photo of a soldier marked on the back as being Percy Thomas A. Accompanying the medals is an original copy of the Official Medal Sections paperwork that shows his entitlement to WWII campaign stars and medals.
