BOER WAR/WW1 OFFICERS MEDALS - CAMBRIDGE VOLUNTEER CORPS - MAJOR RANK. Claude Victor Sainsbury Skrimshire joined the action in 1899 or 1900 when he left study at St Catherine's College for Africa as part of the Cambridge Volunteer Corps attached to the 1st Suffolks. While in Africa he took part in the advance on Pretora and came out of the war a Private with bars for Transvaal, Orange Free State, Cape Colony and South Africa 1901 - all of which is on his Queen's South Africa medal.

After Africa Skimshire spent some time in the Ceylon-Mauritius Battalion as what looks like a Vice Lieutenant before WW1 arrived. During WW1 he rose to the rank of Captain in the 33rd Siege Battalion of the Royal Garrison Artillery which saw heavy action at St Quentin with 75% casualties to German machine guns. Skrimshire came out of WW1 a Major and spent some further time in the Far East before retiring in 1922. How do we know so much about this man?

Well, not only is he prolific in search results (try Googling "CVS Skrimshire") but this lot also comes with a good bit of research! Along with the research and medals are Skrimshire's uniform buttons, cap badge and rank insignia, all of which add a little more to the man.
