WW1 trench knife with original scabbard. The blade has not been re-sharpened and is very sharp. The knife still has much of it's original blackening, (there is no rust on the blade). The scabbard is very finely incised "France", (does not show in pictures). Some of the original bluing still shows on the scabbard. The scabbard has some dents as seen in the pictures.
Measures 12 inches when in the scabbard. Measures about 11.5 inches out. Great condition, please refer to the pictures. There is a tiny nick near the tip of the blade, (not really noticeable in pictures).
The points on the brass knuckles show some wear as should be expected. Minimal very fine surface rust on the scabbard. Only these French made Au Lion "knuckle duster" trench knives were actually used in WW1 by our American soldiers. By the time similar American made trench knives were made, the war was ending and they did not see active use in WW1.This knife was my grandfather's that he used in WW1. He lost his legs to gangrene that was caused by frostbite from the freezing water in the bottom of trenches in France. Beware of fake imitations which are abundant! I absolutely guarantee this knife is authentic. The item "Rare Authentic WW1 Au Lion Trench Knife with original scabbard Excellent Cond" is in sale since Friday, February 16, 2018.
