US Pre WW1 US Army Infantry M1911 Campaign Hat Cap. 29th Inf. Reg. Co. A. FINE

For sale here is an amazing US Pre WW1 Infantry Officer's Campaign Hat. This one is in amazing condition. The hat is complete with Gold Bullion Officer's Acorn Cord, a screw back 29th Infantry Regiment Company A Device, and a supple leather chin strap.

The hat is made fine doeskin wool, and features 5 lines of stitching around the brim. The hat has 3 tan painted air vent grommets.

I have not removed the device to see if there is a grommet there. The device is bright, shiny, and thick brass.

The screw posts looks fine, but the disc has been lost and someone along the line has replaced the disc with a white rubber cap. The satin band has a bow on the left side, and shows considerable age and soiling. The satin band does feel slightly fragile. The gold bullion officer's cord shows heavy patina, and there is fraying to the center knot, but the rest of the cord shows only normal wear, age, and patina.

The upper body of the cap shows no mothing, but there is plenty of embedded dust and some minor sweat stains. The underside of the bill does show some shallow moth tracking.

As you can see, the hat has been very neatly reshaped. In my opinion, this was done long ago, and was probably worn this way.

The chin cord is supple, but there are some spots that look soiled and possibly dried. The buckle is brass and should be functional, but i haven't tried it out in case the leather isn't as supple as i think. Inside, the hat has a leathere sweat band that is in good condition, but shows age, wear, soiling, and sweat staining.

The maker's mark in the back is faintly present, but isn't legible at all, though it may have a Stetson shape, but that's open for debate. The sweat band stitching is all tight and present. I haven't folded the band down to check for markings, and there are no other markings that i can find. The hat is small, and i would call it a 6 7/8 or maybe a 7. The sweatband shape is stiff, so it makes it a little harder to judge the wearable size. This is a beautiful hat that will prove difficult to upgrade.
