A Truly Stunning Vintage Men's 1915 WW1 AUSTRALIAN FLYING CORPS Horsehide Leather Dispatch Trench Coat Jacket Size Large. D E S C R I P T I O N.
This Long Leather Coat Worn By The Early AFC Airmen Were Basically The Same As Those Worn By Motorists And Motorcyclists In The Pre-War Years. They Were Double Breasted To Keep Out The Wind And To Provide Some Warmth At Altitudes Above 10,000 Feet In Open cockpits With No Heating - But They Were Certainly Not Draught Proof. Ace Masks Were Used For Protection Against Frostbite. Oxygen Was Not Normally Available, So Any Pilot Flying Above 10,000 Feet Would Have Suffered Impaired Mental And Physical Capacity... This is the RAREST of these type of wartime jackets!
This Garment Is In Excellent Condition & The Internal Lining Is In Good Condition For It's Age. Please Note:- This Item Is Approximately 100 Years Old. It Is Distressed In Places And Does Show Some Signs Of General Wear, Etc As Is Expected With Garments Of This Age.
