They suffered heavy casualties during the Battle of the Argonne Forest in 1918.
This lighter appears to be missing a cap which may be rolling inside the device and there is no wick. The top part of his American Legion pin/medal from the 1921 Kansas City, Missouri Convention. And a wonderful Trench Art piece that has been fashioned from a bullet, 3 human teeth (I assume), a blade and a small military button.On the blade it reads "ARGONNE Sept 26 1918" (I think).
