925 sterling silver VERY RARE FULL HUNTER case stamped 018, strap with ROLEX marked crown guard - SERVICED/RUNNING OK. A very unique stand out piece in running order, last serviced in 2017 and keeping time ok (losing some minutes per day, occasionally stopping). This piece has the flip up secret sprung hunter case lid, patented (Brevet stamped) by Charles Zurbrüegg. The case rear internal circumference is stamped 018.. This would make it one of the first cases of this type produced and from research so far appears the much rarer variant compared with the button release case used by many other makers at this time with serial numbers in the high 6 figures as seen on many examples.

Quite possibly only made for Rolex.. This one has ROLEX on the lid flip.

Only seen one other Rolex with a sprung flip lid like this where case marked with serial number in this way (#519). Condition is vintage/patinated, case has marks and light dings, abrasions etc. Strap likewise has some wear etc.

For perfect time if need it, check the smartphone.. For the enjoyment of checking the time.. Please refer to listing images, which form part of the description. Vintage military, Over time the full hunters became scarcer due to a combination of being less relevant during the Great War once shatterproof glass came in along with various other watch face protectors that still enabled viewing of the watch face without using the other hand to flip the case open. Add to this, soldiers pulling off the hunter lids (can spot these'open faced' wrist watches as still retain the top cover hinge).

Also over the decades many old time pieces broken up for their precious metals and considering their combined less useful in peacetime hunter lids (now that wristwatches with open faces became and remained the norm, Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso aside) together with the additional precious metal value.. Then an obvious choice for decommissioning sadly! Considering these additional factors, it seems very few Full Hunter ROLEX wristwatches from this period survive and here is one from 1915 with case stamped with serial # 018.

WILL OF COURSE PACK INCREDIBLY WELL. CAN ALSO RECOMMEND A SPECIALIST SHIPPER THAT OFFERS A FULL PACKING SERVICE. LIKEWISE CAN DROP OFF IN/AROUND LONDON OR WELCOME COLLECTION IF PRE-ARRANGED.
