WW1 BRITISH OFFICERS CUFF RANK TUNIC 56th(LONDON)DIV. BATTLE OF SOMME INTEREST

A superb WW1 British Army officers field worn cuff rank tunic to a Lieutenant in the 1/8th Middlesex Regiment(Yellow triangle). This battalion formed part of the 56th (LONDON) DIVISION which was involved in the diversionary attack at Gommecourt at the battle of the Somme on July 1st 1916(opening day of the British offensive). 182 Officers and 4567 NCOs-O/Rs from the division were either killed, wounded or missing. All original insignia to tunic, including OSD collar insignia, and wound stripe to left sleeve to signify having been wounded, all original cuff rank to lower sleeves and all leather football buttons present.

The yellow triangles on both arms have now faded to white after approx 100 years. This is a well used and worn tunic that has seen alot of field use with a few holes that suggest that they were caused by barbed wire, shrapnel and other heavy use as well as some moth damage , which is shown in the photos. This tunic has been in my collection for a number of years and I can guarantee it's originality , obviously I can't say 100 % it was worn during the Somme offensive but personally I think due to the wear and tear of this trench worn tunic , it has certainly seen alot of combat use. No names or taylor's label found. If you want a mint service dress tunic , this isn't for you but if you want a good honest field /trench worn infantry officers cuff rank tunic , this could be the one.
