WW1 era huge SA M1909 US Hospital Corps Bolo knife dated 1913 Springfield Armory
Original World War I era Model 1909 Hospital Corps Bolo in very good overall condition; manufactured in 1913 by SPRINGFIELD ARMORY. This M1909 is about 19-1/2 / 49.5 cm overall; the blade is about 13-7/8 / 35.3 cm, about 2-1/4 /5.7 cm at the widest point, and 6 mm thick in the middle. Ricasso is stamped with SA / flaming bomb / 1913 on one side and with U. / 17160 serial number on the other. The blade has been very lightly re-sharpened, the tip is intact; a few light surface rust spots are noted for accuracy (cleanable).

The handle looks to be re-done with walnut handle scales and brass/copper pins; all parts are tight with no play; scarce this nice. This M1909 has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition. These are the actual photos. WW1 era huge SA M1909 US Hospital Corps Bolo knife dated 1913 Springfield Armory.

Original World War I era. Model 1909 Hospital Corps Bolo. In very good overall condition; manufactured in 1913 by. The M1909 Bolo was the purpose-built designed jungle tool to aid US soldiers deal with thick foliage that they had previously found themselves in during campaigns in Cuba and in the Philippines. Although much larger than a typical utility knife of the era, M1909 was designed to be carried as a belt knife. Handle wielded a great control over the large up-swept "scimitar style" blade. In my humble opinion, M1909 Bolo was the most beautifully designed standard issue edged weapon for the US military.

Production started in 1909 at the Springfield Armory. Picked up the extra production with the onset of WW1. In spite of varying production estimates M1909 Bolo is fairly scarce. With the majority of M1909s lost to a heavy field use and combat during the two World Wars M1909 became a highly though-after Americana collectible. This M1909 is about 19-1/2 / 49.5 cm overall; the blade is about 13-7/8 / 35.3 cm, about 2-1/4 / 5.7 cm at the widest point, and 6 mm thick in the middle.

The blade has been very lightly re-sharpened, the tip is intact; multiple contact marks on the spine; a few light surface rust spots are noted for accuracy (cleanable). Most of these M1909 Bolos were used as intended during the war and are usually in pretty rough shape. This M1909 Bolo had seen some field use, but the overall condition is much better than average for the type; it will make a great addition to any collection. This WW1 era Bolo has not been cleaned or tampered.
