My research will be included where possible. This is a scarce and poignant set that I part with reluctantly. It is a full size genuine Memorial Plaque, awarded posthumously to Elizabeth, widow of Charles Henry Blogg.

Also the 1914 "Mons" Star with clasp, British War Medal and Victory Medal, all correctly awarded to 6/7374 PTE C. (on the Star) and 6/7374 PTE. The ribbons are correct and original and the clasp (unattached) is included in the sale. I have compared it to examples in Howard Williams' book and and still uncertain. The holes are tiny and precisely located in all four corners which is good.

The clasp has a slight gilt finish, the lettering also looks good. Rifleman/Private Charles Henry Blogg (aka Chas) was born in Bethnal Green, London c. 1873 and lived in Haggerston with his wife Elizabeth Anne and their three children. He was recorded as a Deal Porter by trade, a specialist dock worker stacking "deals" of wood up to 60 feet high.

He joined the 2nd Batallion Rifle Brigade and was Killed in Action on the 9th May 1915, at the battle of Aubers (sometimes called the first battle of Fromelles). The Brigade suffered apalling losses in what eventually was an unsuccessful action and Chas Blogg was one of the 77 men from the ranks to be killed that day. The regimental diary is quite detailed and fairly harrowing. It does not of course mention Blogg but I will print off the five relevant pages along with the Medal Index Card, Medal Rolls, Commonwealth War Graves printout, Soldier's Effects and 1911 Census page.
