WW1 US Ford Experimental Helmet Model 8
WW1 US Ford Experimental Helmet Model 8. Made by Ford Motor Company during World War I, the Model 8 was an experimental pattern that saw limited field testing as a possible replacement to the AEF's "doughboy" helmet. Roughly 1,300 of these were made in November of 1918. Arriving just as the armistice was signed, The Model 8 never saw combat service in France. This particular example retains its original face shield, finish along with original chin strapw/buckles.

The liner has deteriorated considerably, but remnants of the original wool padding along the edge remain. The rim around the edges is intact. Very few Model 8 helmets have survived and this is an extremely rare example with intact working shield. Size: 13.5 X 10.
