OTTOMAN WWI ENVERIYE HONOR DAGGER sword turkish khandjar yataghan jambiya old

A Rare Ottoman Enveriye Dagger - Double-edged slightly curved blade. Quart side in Arabic taken the "Shahada" - the Muslim creed. Obverse side the "Tughra" of Sultan Mehmed V. With star and crescent, including the year 1334 in the Islamic calendar (1918). Vessel and scabbard of chased and ornamental ornate brass.

A weapon in a typical oriental appearance. Slightly worn dagger in very good condition. These pieces were worn by German soldiers in the Turkish service. With period photo of soldier wearing a similar dagger.

This dagger was not a regular military issue weapon. Daggers such as these were awarded to deserving Turkish and German officers as honorary gifts during the First World War between 1914 and 1918 by the Turkish War Minister Enver Pasha.

Historically it is a very interesting object. Only around 4,000 of these Enveriye daggers were produced at the request of former War Minister Enver Pasha (18811922) from 1914 onwards, as a personal, honorary gift for deserving Turkish officers.

German officers who, in the First World War, were appointed as military advisers in Turkey, could also be honoured with such numbered Enveriye daggers. The present, rare Enveriye dagger is, with its blade, hilt, sheath and decor, modelled after of ottoman Jambiya from the 16th century (the original one is in the Topkapi museum) and it is very well preserved. The slightly curved, almost straight blade displays engravings in Arabic script shahada - "there is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his prophet". The serial number can be read on the brass holster on the sheath of the dagger. Hilt and sheath are covered in sheet brass and decorated in an old oriental style. Historically this is an extremely interesting piece and is in very good condition. SERIAL NUMBER: 3327 TOTAL LENGHT IN SCABBARD: 36 cm BLADE LENGHT: 21,5 cm.
