BC-14A WW1 Crystal Radio Receiving Set Box. This unit was manufactured by DeForest Radio Tel & Tel Co. Toward the end of WW1. It is in good condition, considering it is nearly 100 years old!

These radios were used by the US Army Signal Corps, in the field, to receive artillery spotting transmissions from portable spark-gap transmitters operated by the pilots of reconnaissance aircraft. The unit appears to be in relatively good condition with some damage to one corner of box -- see photos. The manufacturers label clearly identifies the unit as. US Army Radio Receiving Set Box. Manufactured by DeForest Radio Tel & Telco of New York.

The wood case is in relatively good condition -- considering its age of nearly 100 years. Although it clearly shows its age -- damage to one corner, scrapes, fading and marks, it appears to have its original finish. Please view pictures to assess condition. Controls rotate freely -- possibly too freely due to age. The unit was not tested with an antenna.

The buzzer does work as expected. Internal components appear to be in good condition.

Original operating instructions and schematic are on inside of cover -- very readable. Headphones and battery are NOT included. A Google search revealed a number of historical notes regarding the BC-14A -- very interesting. Thank you for supporting the.
