The underside is marked "75 DEC", consistent with a French 75mm artillery casing, along with the production marking "D7L17P", indicating a 1917-era casing. The casing has been transformed into a decorative vase through detailed handwork, including repoussé and chasing.

Prominent high-relief Cross of Lorraine. Stylized oak branches with leaves and acorns. Fluted and scalloped upper rim. Original military use: French 75mm field artillery casing.
