This Third Liberty Loan poster is advertising U. Gov't Bonds - it's an original piece by the prolific and talented American artist/illustrator Sidney Riesenberg.
Riesenberg was an American artist and illustrator from New York who was known especially for his oil paintings, but he also illustrated a large number of early war-ware, detective, sea stories and western pulp covers. This dramatic WW1 propaganda poster displays a U.Soldier carrying the flag "Over The Top" of the trench and across "no man's land" to plant it on German controlled soil in victory, with the words "Over the Top for You" above him. The poster depicts a soldier charging up a hill while an American Flag is draped across his back. The soldiers' mouth is agape, and he has a look of fear in his eyes. This imagery was meant to target a civilian's thoughts of their loved ones fighting in Europe.
