OLD FIGHTING KNIFE MODIFIED FROM SWORD GERMAN THEATER WW1 or WW11 TRENCH DAGGER... The The dagger like blade is 6.5.
The Lion head hilt is quite striking. I think it possible that this was a theater made knife. It is somewhat "handle heavy" and would generate a good deal of power if used to stab. The blade looks used, has median line, sharpened on both sides, it has tarnish and scratches, the tip is dulled.
The stock is slightly over 1/8. Note the guard has some bends, and is noticeably loose. If I twist the handle, it tries to rotate (about 1/16 each way), and some of the wire wrap is off line. The black part/insert is wood, painted black, I think. The scabbard w/ hanging rings, was very nicely done. The knife fits well and snug.
I think the leather covering may be part of the original scabbard, from the sword. Take a look at the photos, and decide for yourself. It is a "very cool" piece that really "shows well".
