WW1 Australian Slouch Hat. Dated 1917. 5th Light Horse Feild Artillery. Original
With original leather sweatband, rising sun badge and 5. Division Light Horse Field Artillery Colour patches (the puggaree however is a WW1 repro). I bought it in Melbourne app 1988 from an ex WW2 Sailor (i bought much of my WW1 stuff off him) and was told it belonged to Private Turrell of 5. Div Light Horse Field Artillary AIF. The colour patches and writings inside the band support this and Indeed, Private Turrell did serve with the 5. Please research as I did. The Makers stamp on outside of leather sweat band is faded but legible in most parts and reads?? Colour Patch is old and worn but secure to the hat itself. The Rising Sun has minor corrosion (blue not rust) and could be cleaned easily (I dont polish or alter anything in my collection except dust).

The turned back Brim is fixed by the standard clip back to the hat - but the clip seems stuck due to similar blue corrosion. It has been folded back for the last 30 years that ive had it and I wont want to force it. Expected for it age but Im sure it would release if need be.

Leather chin strap is in one piece and overall good condition but obvious cracks and slight blue corrosion on buckle and metal studs. The Puggaree is not original (I bought this myself) but is a WW1 remake. The Emu plumes were original when I bought this back in 1988 but I cant guarantee their authenticity of age. Overall the Slouch is in good condition but aged and some marks and stains in cloth as a whole again its a used slouch.
