An ultra-rare WW1 Imperial German Visor-less M18 helmet. It is 100% original & is in excellent condition. Inside the paint was applied much thinner & has a very small (tiny) amount of surface rust showing through, please study pics. The shell has no dents.
The liner is in fine condition & still retains the three cushions in the leather segments. The leather is all excellent & supple with no rips. It is a size 64 shell. All the ribbons (to hold cushions in place) are present & have never been untied. I just feel the painting is not original from factory.
Repainted after war for the Freikorps? The history begin this helmet is still not clear. It's says it was planned to be used by tank crews, for the soldiers so the gasmask could fit better and also to be delivered to the Ottoman Empire so in that way the ottoman soldier could touch the soil with his forehead during the daily prayings. Less than 5,000 helmets were made during the last days of the First World War. Then, they were taken by the Freikorps and used during the first years of the Republic of Weimar.
By far, my favorite helmet. I used to collect WW1 items, I have more items listed. Also I have some WW2 daggers. (Right now I'm not at home, I'll be back by May 16th).
