I obtained this helmet approximately 20 years ago from a gentleman from Belgium. He regularly trolled the Bastogne Battle Sites for relics. He stated that this helmet was obtained from a farmer near Bastogne that had it hanging on a nail outside his barn.
He also stated that the farmer found this helmet near his fence line well after WWII had ended. So it laid there for quite along time. He brought it back home and used it for a feed scoop. So it was dubbed the "FEED SCOOP" HELMET.
I really don't doubt the story because I really don't think anyone would really make up a story like that to sell a helmet. Especially one in this shape. I think most people would stick with "BATTLEFIELD FIND". Anyway this a WWI GERMAN M16 COMBAT HELMET SHELL.
It still has traces of hand painted camo "breakup" lines remaining on the helmet. It is also stamped ET60 OR 62.It's hard to see but looks more like a 62 Just sizing it up, but stamp looks like a 60. Both chinstrap mounts still remain in place.
This would be a great conversation piece or collectable. You can use it to feed your chickens, or horses if you like..
