Now often referred to as "wire lug" or "trench" watches often using ladies fob watch calibers it is not until much later we begin to find mass marketed purpose built wrist watc hes. The name "wristlet" was used until the early 1930s and was eventually replaced by the modern name "wrist watch". We are very Proud to posses and now offer for sale a piece of wrist watch and general horological history this early. Wristwatch predates the modern watch as we have come to know it Known now as the iconic "hunter Trench" watches of the first world war era. This particular example is a very early adaptation to the now widely used stem set movement we have come to know and not the pinset movements we see in similar watches of the era.
As mentioned earlier this watch is a classic early "Savonette" (or "hunter") style pocket watch movement, which means that the seconds subdial would be a 6 o'clock with the crown at 3. Popularised in use during the first world war and now often referred to as "Officers Trench" watches today.
A very large sized antique case for a watch of its type at 32mm in diameter (excluding crown) 34mm (inclusive) 38mm lug tip to lug tip the watches solid 14ct Rose gold case is a classically designed Hunter pocket watch case with its single hinged design and winder at 3. It is a beautiful solid gold case pleasingly un-engraved. And largly undamaged considering its age and use! 14k gold is a pure gold and thus very soft and easyly scratches or dents but the watch suffers only mild scuffing (looks much worse in the photos you'll have to take our word on this very mild denting to case back does not impair the cases structure or ability to close). Classic and original period "Onion Crown". A Very Good condition classic hunter enamel dial with bold oversized Arabic numerals for the hours classically red outlined 12 a minutes read on its perimeter subsidiary seconds situated at 6 of the dial classic military lume inset hour and minuet hands baring no loss or damage at at all to the fragile dial again only normal and expected ware only adds to the Antiquity look of this historic timepiece very very faint hairline marks to the dial barely visible with the naked eye so again remember your seeing this magnified through a macro lens! Genuine Antique period leather band in used but supple and good fully usable condition enlarged stylised classically military "Tang buckle" recently revisited and revised restyled by the likes of Panerai back to the modern eye but here we have a true original! A 15 Jeweled Quality Swiss Made Movement without taking the dial off the watch we can't pin point it down to an exact maker and we really don't like dismantling 100 year old watches to this extent but undisputedly a good quality swiss movement various advanced shock protection gaskets fitted to the various jewels thats a plus of the macro! A very interesting and very fine movement in PERFECT working order holding almost perfect time well within 1/2min in a 24 hour period thats modern day mechanical rolex standard! If you are a serious collector, you would be hard-pressed to find a nicer example.Check our feedback and give us a call.
