Make sure to check all of my auctions after you look at this one. I'm listing an eclectic assortment of mechanical, technological and musical antiques, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everybody. Here's a seldom seen 1918 Mark III Short Wave Tuner.

These large, rugged, and quite magnificent WWI Era radios were designed by Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co. In 1915 and manufactured throughout WWI by different contractors, including Marconi, Johnson & Phillips, Muirhead, Robert W. Paul, and the Automatic Telegraph Manufacturing Co. This example was built by Automatic Telegraph in 1918.

This is clearly a battle-tested set, but as you can see in the photographs, its condition is still excellent throughout. Fabric covering on the cabinet is faded, and exhibits wear, but it's still intact, with no rips, no missing patches of cloth. The panel is pristine, with no cracks, no chips, no other damage.

Knobs, dials, levers and switches are original and in excellent condition, with no damage, no issues. All of knobs turn easily, all of the controls operate as they should. Original buzzer and buzzer cover. Chassis is original throughout, and the chassis components are clean.

Tarnish as you'd expect, but no corrosion or damage. Original wiring throughout, with no modifications or repairs. Tightly wound coils and undamaged condensers. One of the brass binding posts on the bottom of the panel is missing its nut and screw, and the cover is absent from the battery box in lower left corner of the cabinet. There is also some splintering in the top edge of the wood partition that separates the battery box/headphone compartment on the left from the panel on the right.

These are the only issues of note, and considering this radio did hard time on the battlefield, they're relatively insignificant in scope. The headset is included for display only. It has open drivers and is not functional. The buzzer battery is likewise included for display only. With the lid closed, the radio measures approximately 14" x 13" x 9. I will package the radio properly so that it arrives at your doorstep safely. The item "1918 Marconi Mark III Short Wave WWI Radio Tuner Automatic Tel.
