Overview Scarce inaugural issue of The Indian, the official weekly publication of the United States Army's Second Division during its post-World War I occupation duty in Germany. The lead article, "An Immortal Division, " by Major-General John A.

Lejeune, recounts the Second Division's combat history and major engagements during the war. Additional contents include the introductory editorial "Just a Word, " reports and anecdotes from division personnel, and illustrated statistical charts comparing divisions by prisoners, artillery, and machine guns captured, replacements received, and kilometers advanced. The striking two-color cover was designed by Claggett Wilson, a noted American artist and World War I veteran. An uncommon piece of American military journalism combining Second Division history, occupation-era reporting, original artwork, and contemporary unit statistics. Condition Good overall condition for a fragile military periodical more than a century old.

Light wear and small losses or abrasions are present along portions of the cover edges. Pages remain attached at the original staples.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
