This is a rare set of three original photographs of the role played by Poison Gas in the Great War. The Provenance and history of these photos are illustrated in an 11" x 9" pamphlet by W.

King, noted for The Story of the War of 1898, engaged in a series of lectures in the early part of the 20th century on his travels in Mexico (Vera Cruz) and collaboration with the War Department on the development and use of Chemical Warfare during WWI. The soldiers depicted in the photo are Marines from the 2nd and 3rd divisions who fought and were wounded at the Battle of Chateau Thierry beginning on June 6th 1918.

Known as the "Wounded Heroes" these 10 marines (and sergeant), accompanied King throughout his lecture tours. The original pamphlet, in very good condition, markets and promotes King's several correspondences, particularly ending with the letter from Rear Admiral Robert E. The photo of the marines, 10 1/2" x 7", has a 4 tear on the right. The horse photo 8" x 6 1/2".

Suited marine 10" x 8". As depicted, these original photos, have been posted, used and conditions shown. We will be more than happy to answer any questions to those interested.
