Antique German Whistler Music Box Figural Wood Carving WW1 Soldier

A great antique German carved wood figural whistler automaton figurine of a WW1 soldier - either American or British. The works and the base of the figure are stamped "Germany". The figure stands 13.5 high and is in very good condition.

There are no breaks, cracks or repairs. The finish is original with a nice patina - darker than appears in the photos.

The soldier holds his rifle with bayonet attached at his side while he fills his pipe. His knapsack removes to expose the brass works and bellows. The knapsack is secured by a single screw on the bottom of the panel. It can slip off if not pushed in tightly.

The works will need cleaning and repair. The bellows needs replacement or repair. The works do wind and hold. All seems to operate when the release wire is pulled except the head does not turn. There appears to be a wire missing from the works to the base of the head.
