Antique SIEMENS HALSKE SH Galvanometer military WWI German Empire Morse Code. Materials: wood, brass and ebonite. Dimensions: 440 mm (L) x 300 mm (W) x 135 mm (H, bottom to the top metal circle with Siemens & Halske).
The instrument is designed by Siemens & Halske according to the information of the Kaiserliche Telegraphen-Versuchsam Prof. Breisig and is used to carry out the measurements mainly occurring in telegraph and telephone operations. It contains a mounted in front of the actual meter hard rubber plate with switching device consisting of crank and plug switches, through which the necessary circuits in the various measurements can be performed quickly and safely. The additional resistor mounted in a special box serves to extend the measuring ranges and to test individual elements and whole batteries. The instrument is delivered since 1901.All-purpose measurement device made by Siemens & Halske. At that time even simple objects of utility were made lovely detailed. This device was used as auxiliary device for morsing purposes in the national administration of the German Empire. The galvanometer is in good condition for its age, it has signs of wear, as you can see from the picture.
It was not tested or calibrated. It is missing the fuse and two knobs which are situated at the small holes from number 1 and 10, other than that it looks to be completed. Taking in consideration the researches I've done, I think this model is a pre-WWI model because it has the serial number 128885 A, if you take a look at the link from the first source, the galvanometer from there has the serial number 328751 A.It is quite a big difference between the two serials number. The instrument appears in the book Telegraph Measurements Part 4 - Electrical Measurements on Telecommunication Systems - Edition of 1939, starting with page 50, until page 64. I uploaded the cover of the book (picture 7) and the page 50, where the presentation of the instrument starts (picture 2). In the picture 8, it is presented a photo of the instrument from the second source, where it has attached a small instrument to the left side, which was used for morsing purpose, this is just a picture and the small instrument attached to the galvanometer is not included in this listing.
It is an extremely rare instrument used by German Army. As you know, majority of the instruments used by Germans were destroyed or confiscated. If you have any reservations please contact me for clarification. We value our feedback as it is a meter of how we work. Problems happen, but if you give us the chance, we'll try our best to resolve them.
