Here is a very rare and authentic WW1 era British Brodie combat helmet to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 4th (Marine) Brigade, 2nd Division, AEF. Helmet displays a beautiful hand-painted 3/5 insignia of a recognized pattern. Pierced hole for stunningly patina'd period correct EGA and nut. Liner and chinstrap present and in very good, supple condition.
Doughnut' ring present in liner. Red ink "BRODIE" stamp on reverse of oil clothe liner (don't want to tear liner to get photograph). Helmet displays typical British-made characteristics. Round helmet brim (US M1917 helmet was oval), split rivets on chinstrap bales (US M1917 helmet used round head rivets), overlapping joint rim band (US M1917 helmet used butt joint) and typical style alpha-numeric stamp in interior rear brim, "D/F 71" Estimate about 90% shell paint remaining.
Helmet exhibits a lovely patina and overall prospect. Authentic 4th (Marine) Brigade helmets are rarely offered, especially in this condition.
Even rarer are helmets with hand-painted insignia. Rarer still are hand-painted insignia of a well recognized pattern. Topping it off is the overall condition of this example. You can always find cash but an evocative of the era helmet such as this, to a unit with such a remarkable combat record, seldom comes along. Don't let this one get away. NOTE: While it appears black in the photos, the field of the 3/5 insignia is a very dark blue. I have tried my best to produce quality photos of this helmet, but with their curved and reflective surfaces helmets are notoriously difficult to photograph. In hand the helmet is stunning.
