Rare antique panorama WW I photograph of Company E of the 108th Engineers, 33rd Infantry Division taken at Camp Logan Houston, Texas in 1917. The photograph was taken by E.

Hughes of 6170 Blackstone Ave. The 108th Engineers were trained at Camp Logan in Houston, Texas as part of the Illinois National Guard.

The 33rd Infantry first went to France in 1918. The 108th Engineers was the first unit to go to France under the command of Col. Camp Logan is also known for its role in the race riot that took place on August 23, 1917. Local citizens, police, and soldiers were killed during the night of violence. I do not think the 108th was at Camp Logan during the event. The site of Camp Logan is today Houston's largest city park known as Memorial Park and golf course. The photograph is framed in an antique frame that measures 9"X38". These military company photos rarely come on the market. Camp Logan is a fascinating part of the history of Houston, Texas that many local citizens have little knowledge of. Virtually nothing remains of Camp Logan today. A historic marker near where the main gate of the fort was located, gives a brief summary of the history Camp Logan and events that happened there in 1917. This is a must for a collector of Camp Logan memorabilia.
