Cased Pair Of German WW1 Marine Binoculars Carl Zeiss DF 7X. A First World War pair of DF 7X German marine binoculars by Carl Zeiss. These military DF binoculars (along with the civilian version Noctar) were the first 7X50 (7x magnification with 50mm lenses) of their kind.
They were produced for the first time at the Zeisswerk in Jena (Germany) around 1911/12. It seems that these particular binoculars were only in production until later that decade 1918 or there about and are quite rare. These straight-line binoculars employ patented roof prisms made according to the Abbe-König. They have bakelite eyecups and feature retractable sun visors. They are finished in a textured leather. They are named Carl Zeiss Jena and marked D.
7X, with a serial number of 431259. The binoculars retain their original leather strap and come in their original leather carry case also with shoulder strap. The binoculars have a length of 25.5cm (10 inches) and with extended sunvisors 29cm (11 ¼ inches). Together with case weigh 1.84 Kg. The binoculars are in a really nice condition with a little wear to the finish in parts but no damages. The lenses are clean and crisp with no scratches and give a very clear image. The lid of the case is no longer attached but otherwise the case is in good order. The item "Cased Pair of German WW1 Marine Binoculars Carl Zeiss DF 7X" is in sale since Wednesday, May 29, 2019.
