Please feel free to make an offer. An Extremely Rare WWI Barbed Wire Removal Device used in the Trenches & on the battlefield. This item is really a museum piece. Thin sheet steel body, closed on the top by a wooden plug & underneath it has a wooden handle on the base. The handle holds a pull fuze & a pull wire would of originally gone through the handle.
These were used for maximum effect to demolish barbed wire obstacles in & around the trenches. Just image the stories this could tell if only. I would image most of these have now just rotted away in the ground or didn't survive their use. I believe that it's probably French as it was recovered from the Somme. The steel body cylinder is empty.I've actually never seen another like it other than in photos. This is an original item & not a modern reproduction. Made from metal & wood & in. Expected relic condition for an item of this age & nature.
It would make a great & unique Xmas present or a great addition to any Military collection. Please study the images as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.
