Framed World War One British Military Memorial Piece Scottish Regts Edinburgh
Framed World War One British Military Memorial Piece - Scottish Regts Edinburgh. WWI British Memorial artwork crafted to remember those from one area who served - and in some cases, died - for King and Country. The design has King George V and Queen Mary at the top, hand fashioned scrollwork at top and bottom, with the main part being the Roll of Honour for those who served. Most of the men listed served in Scottish units - King's Own Scottish Borderers, Cameron Highlanders, Argyll Sutherland Highlanders, Highland Light Infantry, Royal Scots, etc. The Royal Navy, Royal Engineers, and Royal Artillery are also represented.

Size about 21x25, under glass, ready to hang. Some British friends with in-depth military knowledge have added some detail of interest. A check of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission register on the KIA names showed only one with an address - and that was in Edinburgh. Another contributed some terrific local information:... There is a Bowling Green Street (one of very many widely spread) in Edinburgh - in fact, it is in Leith, the port/dock area to the North of Edinburgh a good fish and chip shop and a notoriously rough pub The Black Bull at the top of Leith Walk!

The Bowling Green Street / Quilts area was rough, neglected and rundown, there is recorded also a big fire in that area prior to redevelopment. At the end of the bridge, there was the Bowling Green Bar and there is no denying, it is on the corner. All the elements are then together, Bowling Green Street, the bridge and corner. Further, checking the names on the Memorial Plaque, there are several multiples Wilson- Martin -Forrett so almost certainly local families that frequented the bar.

There is posted the plaque image onto the Gordons Memorials page, not that there are any Gordons listed, but for interest and possible clues. One reply informs that a Forrett family did live in that area. Check out our entire store for more great products and deals!
