German Ww1 Demag Crank Handle Bayonet Trench Fighting Knife

Listing is for a vintage German WWI knife that is marked "Demag" on the blade. Measures about 10.5 with a 6 blade with a metal handle. Comes in overall good condition (considering its age) with some rusting on the handle and blade, some paint loss on handle.

Metal sheath has some of its black paint worn off. The rivet holding the strap to the belt-loop has torn through the leather but the snap still works great and holds the knife well. The leather, while quite worn, is still soft and pliable. The army green paint is in really good condition on one half of the handle. The other side has some rust.

The blade is in overall good condition. It has a lot of scratches, but still has a sharp point. The two edges of the blade are also quite sharp. The leather ring/gasket at the bottom of the blade is still intact and the blade seats nice and snug into the scabbard/sheath. I wish I had more personal information on this really cool knife. My father in law recently passed away and we found this with some of his personal effects. He was not a collector and none of his children know how he acquired it.

Please contact me if you have any questions. I have more photos if you would like me to send you some. General history of this item : A very recognizable but nevertheless a very scarce original German WWI bayonet.

This is an original Imperial German Aufpflanzbarer Grabendolch or Fixable Trench Knife - Bayonet, often referred to by collectors as the DEMAG. These have been reproduced in India and elsewhere, but never matching the quality of this original German first world war production.

The bayonet has a short double edged dagger blade marked DEMAG / DUISBURG in a circle in front of the steel cross guard on the blade ricasso. The overall length is about 10 1/2 inches. The unique "CRANK HANDLE" grip is constructed from two steel stampings riveted together, in the typical "Ersatz" style of construction. This grip fits the standard Gewehr 98 (GEW 98) Mauser bolt action magazine Rifle carried by German Infantry throughout WW1. I can also, apparently, now sell to international buyers. Again, please contact me if you have any questions. The item "GERMAN WW1 DEMAG CRANK HANDLE BAYONET TRENCH FIGHTING KNIFE" is in sale since Sunday, December 9, 2018.
