Original poster, archivally backed onto linen with a border left around the edge for future mounting. This poster had a tear to the left of the boot, up in the black area.
Sometime in the past, someone tried to color the edge of the tear with some paint or ink. While not ideal, it does show a bit in the right angle of light, for the most part it is fairly invisible. Great image - while most of the WWI posters had very "folksy" or "patriotic" images, this is one of the most graphic and intimidating posters our government commissioned for WWI. A rare poster - cannot fin any in recent auctions. There is one for sale online currently.
It is unbacked, has some loss along a vertical crease, and has a slight tape repair. When I had these posters restored / backed, there were a number of these stickers that had been used to close edge tears.
