Thank you for stopping by. Offered here is a SUPERB WW1 Patria Military Trench Watch with shrapnel guard, fit for a watch collector, admirer of vintage items, or simply as an everyday watch. Was founded by Louis Brandt, who would later rebrand his company to Omega Watch Co.
Patria Watch Co was formed with the express intention of industrially producing purpose-built wristwatches in the early 20th century, after the Boer War and before World War 1. If there were ever an origin story for trench watches then Louis Brandt, and Patria Watches, are just that. The exact date of manufacture of this watch is unknown, but it could be as early as 1905, and as late as 1920.
Fully serviced, keeping time and warrantied. Movement: Lovingly brought back to life, this Swiss made watch has a very high quality 13 ligne, 15 jewel movement. The movement is lever set at 3 o'clock. The movement is fully serviced and keep time. Dial and Hands: White porcelain dial is in near-perfect shape, with slight and barely visible hairlines crossing the center of the dial.
No chips, just very faint hairlines. No lume remains on the dial or hands. Case: Case has not be alter or polished in any way.
All original patina is still intact, and I think it looks pretty stunning with all that tarnish. Case is signed "Patria W Co" on interior, and with sterling silver markings, and monogrammed on the exterior. Crystal is original to case. There are no visible scratches, however there is a very minor chip at 2pm which is not very visible but does exist. Case comes with a darkened brass shrapnel guard, perhaps aged to this color over time?
The patina is quite beautiful. Strap: Custom made Kitchener style strap in black with matching stitching. Your are free to select a different leather and stitch. The watch will be functional and keeping time when you receive it and into the future! Time is obsessed with vintage watches.
We focus our collection on military watches from WW1, both American brands like Waltham and Elgin, as well as Swiss made trench watches and a special fondness for Borgel cased examples. So great is our love for trench watches, we make our own period correct straps in multiple styles. Please see our other listings. In addition, we love vintage watches from later decades up to the 1960's, tracing the evolution of the wrist watch from a military technology to an everyday accessory. Our emphasis is mainly in no-name brands for everyday wearing, but also include a focus on Gruen and Tissot watches. Lastly, our obsession includes chronographs from the 40's-60's.
Our approach to repair is almost exclusively sympathetic, meaning that we will service the movement and leave all of the patina of the dial and cases untouched. We do not polish our cases, or have on very rare occasions. In most cases, the original crystal is retained and if needed only hand polished (plastic crystals only). Our preference is to retain as much of the patina of the watches that we acquire.
Cases are cleaned of dirt and grime, crystals are buffed (if possible) and dials are only minimal touched, if at all. Time, this is the true essence of vintage watches and we hope you share in our enjoyment!
