Original WW1 British Army 1915 No100 Mark 234 Field Telephone 1. This sale is for a genuine period No 100 Mark 234 field telephone which was used by British forces. During the First World War. At the beginning of the First World War civilian telephone were put into front line service, however, they were not designed to operate in muddy conditions.
Field telephones like the No100 Mark 234 were specially designed and better suited to the conditions on the Western Front. The National Army Museum has an example of the same model in their online collection available to view on their website, catalogue number. Features a wooden case to protect the telephone from the conditions in the trenches, leather carry handle to the top, hinged front closure with brass front catch which can fold under the set, hand wound generator to the interior, 2x brass terminals to attach telephone lines, wood slide panel cover to the rear, No102 handset, magneto bell and circuit diagrams to the front and rear panel both of which are dated December 1915 (see pictures).
