ORIGINAL WW1 GERMAN Model 17 STEEL HELMET WITH STEEL BAND AND COMPLETE LINER

The pickelhaube or spike helmet had proven to give little protection to the German armies. The steel helmet was then manufactured and tested in Eisen-und Huttenwerke, AG Thale/Harz in the spring of 1916. There was basically 3 models, the M16 with leather liner band, the M17 with steel liner band and the M18 with steel liner band. This example is a M17 where the exterior retains 85% of the feldgeau paint. It has no rust on the exterior and no dents. The three pins are all intact. This helmet has a rare maker stamped as AL 64 (SIZE 64). 3 Liner pads are in place.

1 liner pad has had repair done to it and one of the two fingers had been pulled through. Interior of the helmet has light rust which is common for a 100 years old item.
