SCARCE ORIGINAL WWI IMPERIAL GERMAN ERSATZ BAYONET/KNIFE WITH SCABBARD AND FROG

Its 12 blade is in bright, original finish with a single wide groove on either side. It has not been cut down. It is proofed on both the ricasso and the spine. Blade has no rust, nicks or sharpening. The 2-part grips are made of stamped steel and they maintain approximately 75% of their original field green paint. The catch button spring is weak but still functions. The steel cross guard has a turned back quillion, a feature not often seen on ersatz bayonets. The steel scabbard is an excellent fit the blade. There is a shallow dent to the front of the scabbard.

Most of the paint on the front of the scabbard is gone while approximately 50% of the paint remains on the back side. Leather frog is maker marked on the back and it is dated 1916.

The leather is pretty decent considering it is 100 years old. This is a recent attic find and is new to the market and the collecting world.
