The hinge allowed the holster to move with the cavalry man's leg. It was designed for a web belt and has it's original rawhide'pig-tailed' leg tie down strap intact. This holster considering the age being 105 years old is near MINT. The mahogany brown leather has some very soft patina and no abuse. Some light leather surface wear on back of holster where it rubbed against the cavalry trooper's body.
