Mexican & WWI Dismounted VERY EARLY M1910 Cartridge Belt by Russell Mfg. Mexican War & WWI AEF Dismounted M1910 Cartridge Belt M1903 Springfield Rifle Russell Mfg. The RUSSEL ink stamp is just barely visible on the underside of one cover on each 5-pouch Cartridge holder. This is an EARLY M-1910 dismounted cartridge belt- featuring the retaining straps inside each pocket- ALL are there and firm, AS SEEN IN RESEARCH PHOTO.

This belt shows obvious field use- it is not an unissued example. The M-1910 Cartridge Belt was a mass-produced belt that saw much action in both the Mexican Expedition of 1916, and the First World War. These belts were made in three parts - two panels and a web attaching strap that looped through the ends of the panels. On each end of the adjustment strap are two metal hooks that are hooked into the set of two metal eyelets that run down the middle of the interior of the panels.

The web attachment strap also has three centered metal eyelets to allow the attachment of the M-1910 haversack's back strap. The panels are canvas, and each set of panels had one "male" and one "female" buckle, the "male" buckle having a "T" post. Each panel has 5 pockets, which are ribbed on the bottom. The pocket flaps are pointed, and if you look under the pocket flap closest to the buckle, there is usually a maker's stamp, either Mills or Russell, as they were the only two makers of the M-1910 until the ribbed pocket bottoms were deleted for the M-1917 cartridge belt.

I've detached (they can be re-hooked no issue) the back facing attachment straps to photograph on my modeling bench- needed good light to see the Russel Ink Stamp Marks- which are both there- as well as to photograph the ammunition data on the inverse sides. All items, I was told, came from the youngest son's family. There is a musty smell to this M1910 belt- that plastic bag and a few mothballs would remove.
