A superb & ultra-rare raw-edge WW1 British Army helmet with its original coat of factory paint which is all present & in excellent condition, please study photos. The shell is in very good condition with no dents.
The underside brim is stamped with B. 70, the very rare stamping is for W. Beardmore Co Ltd of Glasgow, (the steel suppliers). The numbers refer to the batch of metal used.
The nicely sized liner is in extremely good condition with only 3 very tiny moth holes in the felt cushion, (hardly seen) please study pics. There is no size stamp but i would say it was at least a size 7. It still retains its very seldom seen original paper instruction label at the crown. I believe this label has survived time because it is a slightly thicker guauge paper than the usual type (which are almost'tissue-like' now). Please note, this one is not the fibre reinforced type used in American helmets. It also has the remains of a paper tag-label tied to the leather strap of the liner, pic 9. It is the very early pattern liner with no rubber'doughnut' under the felt.
The standard Brodie ink stamping is on the inside of the lining & is nice & clear. The leather chinstrap is in excellent condition with no repairs. This is truly a very fine example & the very best of this pattern i have ever seen.
