US Army Cavalry Saddlebags Spalding Brothers 1917 WWI

Antique US Cavalry 1917 Spalding Brothers Saddlebags for the McClellan Saddle. This is a nice usable set of U. The leather is clean and supple and in good to fine using condition.

All the bag straps and buckles are present. Two longer straps to hold the bags in place are present and in good condition. CONDITION: The leather is pliable for the thickness of the material. The color is a rich deep brown, with a sheen that reflects proper care and condition.

Leather is in good condition; no tears, rips or gouges that would detract from the overall appearance. Stitching and tarnished brass fittings (rivets) are all intact. Minor repair to top rivets located under the flap. One strap buckle has been repaired and is functional.

One rivet for the canvas liner of the near side bag is missing and only visible from underside the yolk. Each bag is approximately 14wide x 15 tall x 4 thick. The overall height is approximately 21 as measured from the bottom the bag to the top of the yolk.

CANVAS LINERS: Good condition - no tears - small minor stains. The off side has 2 small pockets - the near side has no pockets; both liners are in the same general condition.

For those who do not understand the horse language the off side is the right side of the horse and the near side is the one you get on the horse. US is stamped on each bag under the middle strap - it is impressively visible. On the near side in the middle of the yoke is stamped H. The overall condition of the bags is very good considering they are nearly 100 years old!! A musty, old leather smell is present.

Each bag has been stuffed with wrapping paper to present a full appearance. I have tried to be as accurate as possible with the description. Please rely on the pictures provided. I will be happy to send more pictures if you do not see what you are looking for.
