US Pre WW1 M1903 Canteen Unit Marked 1905 RIA Hanger. Complete, Stuck Cork. S592

For sale here is a great looking US Pre WW1 M1903 Field Web Gear Canteen. This is a great looking piece that is complete with cork, chain, and hanger. The canteen feels like it has smooth sides under the cover.

The cover shows a great deal of wear, soiling, and carry, but is solid with great stitching. The from of the cover has a strong U.

The letter D is a bit more faded, but it is paint stamped. The number 2 is handwritten between the D and US, and the number 69 is handwritten below the USS. There is a small handwritten number 3 below the 69. As mentioned, the cover shows soiling, water marks, and age, but it is solid and strong. You can feel a few small dents under the cover, but nothing major. The hanger strap is the canvas type with darkened brass fittings. The strap is really clean and is maker marked RIA for Rock Island Arsenal, and is dated 1905. The metal fittings for the hanger strap show a fair amount of wear. The cork is present and is complete with ring topper and connecting chain.

The cork is stuck in the throat of the canteen. I have not pulled hard or really even tried to get it out. The canteen throat shows good patina and is in great shape, as are the chain, ring, and cork topper. This is a real beauty that will display well.
