Hard to find pre-WW1 era manufacture Rock Island Arsenal M1905 bayonet dated 1906 with original uncut 16 blade, wood grips and scarce canvass-covered M10 scabbard. This is the 1st year of manufacture; serials were not added till 1907. The pommel and muzzle rings are excellent with no ding marks. Original wood grips are tight; all parts are solid with no play. Both grips have a pair of X marks cut into them kill count?? Bayonet release mechanism is 100% functional. The bayonet is about 20-1/2" / 52 cm overall; the blade is about 15-7/8" / 40.3 cm; it has been professionally re-sharpened; the tip is intact. Original canvass-covered M10 scabbard is in good overall condition, considering the age; the leather tip is a new replacement. Hard to find pre-WW1 era manufacture M1905 bayonet dated 1906 with original uncut 16 blade, wood grips and scarce canvass-covered M10 scabbard. This is the 1st year of m. Anufacture; made by the famous Rock Island Arsenal. / "flaming bomb" / 1906.

Side, US on the other. Blade M1905s are scarce in general - most were cut-down during WW2 and were re-furbished as the short 10-blade M1 bayonets; finding an unaltered 1st year of issue M1905 bayonet is even harder - a rare find novadays! A superb quality manufacture bayonet with crisp lines and original walnut grips; both grips have a pair of X marks cut into them.

Could be a personalization of some sort, a kill count? It's impossible to know for sure at this point. The pommel and muzzle ring are excellent with no ding markss. Scabbard is in good overall. Condition, considering the age; the leather tip is a new replacement.

This type was issued to the US Marines during WW1 - see WW1 era photo of a young Marine with the full combat load, including M1905 bayonet in the M10 scabbard (photo is not included with the lot). This rare 1st year of issue uncut Rock Island Arsenal-made M1905 bayonet and equally scarce original M10 scabbard are in great shape overall. A desirable and highly collectible pre-WW1 era M1905; this type is VERY rare this nice.
