US WW1 Experimental Ford Helmet No. 2
This helmet was one of 1200 of this style pressed by the Ford Motor Company. Also known as the Model No.
2, this helmet had advanced protective features compared to the British stye M1917 helmet in use by the US forces. Unfortunately, it looked too similar to the German helmet, and was not popular with the troops. This is a very good example of the type. It is complete with its chinstrap and all of its lining pads, although over the past 90 odd years the leather has dried out and two of the lining pads have detached. They are still stuffed with horseshair!
