This silver-cased CHF Tissot & Fils is one of the most impressive US Signal Corps wristwatches I have come across. Tissot was one of a number of prestigious Swiss makers commissioned to provide watches to the Signals Corps which was responsible for all military aviation before the creation of the United States Army Air Force. What they have in common apart from a good quality 15j movement is luminised Arabic numerals for night flying, a 24 hour register, a chunky crown for winding with a gloved hand, and a good quality silver case. Other makers besides Tissot included Omega, Zenith, Moser, Cyma.
This watch is 38mm in diameter and 12mm deep. The watches were ordered when the US entered the war in Europe in 1917 but most arrived after it had finished. The Tissot is one of the hardest to find. This example is in excellent condition with an intact enamel dial and paint on all the numerals.
There are a couple of minor hairlines between 4 and 5. Please see the photographs for condition. It is running and keeping time but I cannot guarantee reliability or timekeeping on account of its age. I do not know when it was last serviced.
