Vintage World War One Battle Rattle Signaling Device

Vintage WWI Battle Rattle signaling Device --- I have seen these listed as Civil war Era, but i don't think they are quite that old --- This one has a number stamped on it that looks like: 7-6-17 - if that is a date it puts it in World War I --- In World War II Similar items were used to signal Gas attacks, but in WWI they may have been used for other purposes --- It is in working order --- one screw is missing and there is a crack in the wood --- I'm not a wood expert, but it looks like mahogany to me --- It is about 11 long. I Try Hard to describe all items as best as I can. Something looks missing to you, please ask. Please look at the pictures carefully. I try to show everything that I can.
