Private Pedersen was the first casualty from Clay County Iowa during the conflict; more information on Private Pederson is included after the description of the certificate itself. The certificate has been professionally framed with the visible portion measuring 20" x 13" with some undetermined amount presumably behind the frame.

The certificate itself is in EXCEPTIONAL condition with no tears! There is a tiny portion near the upper right corner that is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the certificate, as may be seen in the photos. The lighter area does NOT impact the printed portion in any way! Printed by CARTIER in Paris, these certificates were issued for U.

Servicemen killed in action (KIA) in France during World War I! Born in Spencer Iowa on August 18, 1898, Glen was the son of Andrew Pedersen, a native of Denmark, and one of the pioneer blacksmiths in the area.

One of eight children in the Pedersen home, Glen was a junior in high school when war was declared on April 6, 1917. Glen enlisted three days later on April 9, 1917, and transferred to Des Moines Iowa as part of the 168th Infantry and was placed in headquarters company.

Part of the "Rainbow Division", Glen left for France aboard the President Grant steamer. Glen was killed in action somewhere in France on March 5, 1918 and was buried in France. Note that the certificate was hand-written as Glenn E. Pedersen, although the provenance matches entirely with Glen E. All of our items are guaranteed to be 100% authentic.
