WW1.100% German Original& Exceptionlly Rare Complete Potato Masher
A Complete and Very, Very... German WW1 all intact complete with all the fittings apart from (as far as I can find out) the string pull German Wooden Stick Grenade, nicknamed by the British as a"Potato Masher", these wooden handles are 100% original and found in the Somme area of France. Marked - 5 1/2 SEC - EST ESI? With the Makers Mark on the wooden handle Please look at the images closely as some stand-out and others are worn, many marks are different, made by different fabricators - ideal for a collection. These were first used in 1915, and carried on the soldiers belt using a hook riveted to the metal container...
I was told this is a model 24 handle dated from about 1915 and used throughout the "Great War". The condition of this are is in good considering it has been in the ground for nearly 100 years! Needs a gentle brass wire brush on the metal parts to get the rust off!
