He ended the war as a weapon's instructor at Barassie Camp, Troon. The tin measures 5 1/8" (w) x 3 3/8" (d) constructed from brass and remains in very good condition. The top embossed design is still clear, with minimal smoothing to the hair of the central bust of Princess Mary. The brass is sound and free of fatigue cracks to the corners, which are a commonly found. The hinge is sound with the tin closing smoothly and securely.
The contents consists of packets of tobacco and cigarettes, both of which have been opened. The packaging of the tobacco appears to have got damp at some point as the yellow has become discoloured. The cigarettes have been opened, though 20 remain. The packets have the foil liners. The card is good, with some very minor marking, while the postcard has been folded and hence is creased down the middle and to one side of the portrait of Princess Mary.
The lot also includes a photo portarit of the recipient in uniform, clearly displaying his rank and two wound stripes. An authentic and genuine item that may interest collectors and enthusiasts alike. Any inspection can be arranged, and is indeed welcome.
